I went out to catch the sunset today. I went with minimal equipment, the Nikon D5000 with Nikkor 18-200mm lens attached and I also brought the Sony A350 and the Tamron 200-500mm.
The sky was fairly dramatic today, it was supposed to rain but did not. The type of photography shown on this page is really easy and simple to do. All you have to do is get out there and take the pictures.

I watched the plane approaching this dramatic cloud formation and just waited for the moment to photograph it with the Sony A350 set on ISO 800, f/8 1/1250, aperture priority. The Tamron 200-500mm lens was on 400mm. I shoot hand-held, so I generally set the ISO on the Sony to 800 for faster shutter speeds.
This picture is of some Black-necked stilts grazing the settling pond of our local people poop to potable water plant. You don't want to know what's in the water and in fact, it's not exactly water but it does make for a fine surface to photograph.

This photo was taken with the Nikon D5000 set on ISO 200, f/5.3 1/4000 in aperture priority. The Nikkor 18-200mm was set on 95mm.
Mornings and evenings are prime time for photography. I prefer evenings because getting up at Oh dark thirty is extremely painful to me and besides, the colors are warmer in the evening.
This next image was photographed with essentially the same settings except the lens was set at 34mm.

My final image was shot about 10 minutes past sunset, a time when I seem to catch the best color.
Camera settings were not changed but the lens was set at 200mm.
