If you want to tame that wild light coming out of your dinky built-in flash unit, there are a couple of simple fixes.
My favorite actually also finds use for 35mm film! Buy a pkg of Velvia slide film and toss the film but keep that opague film canister. Cut a slot just wide enough to fit over your flash into the canister, slide the film can over the flash and voila! You have a much better flash that now diffuses the light coming out of your flash.
Sure it cuts down on the range of your flash, but you never had any to begin with.
Another simple trick is to cut a few layers of toilet paper to just hang over the flash and tape it to the flash unit. You're done.
Yeah, yeah, you have to carry a roll of tape or your modified film can. Hey, life ain't easy.
Either way you will end up with softer light and much better flash photography. Give it a try and let me know how it works for you.
