Marfa Texas

Marfa Texas is most famous for the "strange and mysterious ghost lights" that can be seen on most any clear night south of U.S. Route 90 and east of U.S. Route 67. There is quite an elaborate viewing stand on US 90.

This was photographed with the Nikon D90, about 3:30 pm, ISO 200, Auto Mode, f/3.8, 1/2000th, 22mm. Yes, it's odd that I should shoot in the auto mode, since I never use it on purpose. I just jumped out of the truck and snapped the picture. Later, when I took more photos I discovered the mistake and corrected it. This actually happens to me quite often when I take the camera out of the truck or car. The mode dial slips to some weird setting leaving me to scratch my head and wonder why the camera is not cooperating. In this instance it mattered little.
I will show the Marfa lights in a separate posting, since it was about 10 hours after I snapped this image that I came back for the lights.
Marfa is also noted for the really gorgeous Presidio County Courthouse. Texas courthouses are some of the most beautiful old buildings in America.

I was so impressed with this building I actually spent some time walking all around it, looking for the best location to take the pictures. I set the Nikon D90 on ISO 200, aperture priority, f/4.0, 1/1600 and the Nikkor 18-200mm lens was set on 22mm. I experimented with some the depth of field but the distance of the trees from the courthouse made that impractical.
Thanks for looking and clicking!
