Amboy, California is a popular stopping place for Route 66 aficionados the world over. If you have researched the historic Mother Road then chances are you have seen this image many times. Roy's Cafe and Gas station was a rip-roaring tourist spot along the Mother Road.
The town made the news when it was attempted to be sold on Ebay. That deal fell through but Amboy did become a location for films and commercials.
Harrison Ford was known to have flown into town regularly for a burger at the café. The Hitcher, starring Rutgar Hauer was filmed in this area.
The cottages behind the sign made up the old motel and are being restored.
The Star Trek-like sign is familiar to Route 66 fans around the world.
The police car is pure Hollywood and is meant as a historic setting for the town that once was.

Don't forget to play with light and shadows, especially when road tripping in the desert.
Thanks for reading, and a special thanks for your links and clicks. I really do need to be linked to other sites and would appreciate that favor.
Thanks for the memories Joe. Growing up in LA, we used to drive Route 66 about every other summer in the late 50s and through the 60s to visit my Dad's family in Detroit. Those were the days. I'll be driving the old stretch between Ash Fork and Kingman in about three weeks on my own family road trip. Naturally, I'll have my camera.
